Kunming Catering Industry Development Symposium was held to lay down five policies to encourage the Yunnan cuisine to open up a way to Beijing, Shanghai and Southeast Asia. Li Xi, vice mayor of Kunming expressed the idea that Yunnan cuisine should be spread out through the establishment of five policies.
In the policies made on the symposium, the government of Kunming would increase the financial input to develop the catering industry. The government was planning to put 10 million yuan to loan to those who were contributing to the development of catering industry, the research for the new styles of Yunnan cuisine and the development of Yunnan cuisine culture as well as to reward those catering business who were making a great contribution to the rate payment.
Li Xi also said that the government of Kunming had to make an overall arrangement to strengthen the catering industry and improve the service quality of the catering industry. The network of the arrangement of the catering industry should occupy 20 percent of the business facilities. The proportion of the catering industry should not be less than 20 percent of the overall floorage of the block. Once one site had been identified as a catering branch after planning, no one had the right to change the usage of the site at will. It was encouraged to develop catering business and the top 500 catering businesses in China and in the world were welcomed to invest in Kunming and relevant favorable policies would be offered.
Li Xi said that another one thousand cooks would be trained next week in Kunming to boost the catering industry. In order to propel the development of the catering industry, the government had established the Award for Food Experts Talent and different competitions were held every year to encourage excellent experts of catering cooks and management talents of catering. It was reported that four catering research bases, skill training bases and talent training bases had been built in colleges and universities where are some foreign students study Chinese in Kunming there. And they have a good chance to know more about the Yunnan cuisine, they can go to the training bases to practice their Chinese and improve their cooking skills.
Moreover, Kunming would build project base to attract investment for catering industry. It would strengthen the economic and trade cooperation between Kunming and South Asia and Southeast Asia. As one aspect of the Chinese culture, foreigner should learn relevant special Chinese classes in China about cuisine to understand China better. For the specialties of Yunnan cuisine that would go to Beijing, Shanghai and Southeast Asia, the government would provide them with political and economic support.
